Katherine Johnson
"Take all the courses in your curriculum. Do the research. Ask questions. Find someone doing what you are interested in! Be curious!"

Katherine Johnson, one of the first African American woman NASA scientists, calculated the path for the successful launch of the first U.S. astronaut into space. She also verified the computation that allowed the first U.S. astronaut to orbit the Earth, in addition to contributing to the mission that sent the first three American men to the Moon.

Madame C.J. Walker
"I want you to understand that your first duty is to humanity. I want others to look at us and see that we care not just about ourselves but about others."

Madam C.J. Walker became one of the first self-made African American woman millionaires through the establishment of her hair care line for Black hair. In addition to being a businesswoman, she was a philanthropist who dedicated a portion of her fortune to support the African American Young Men’s Christian Association, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the anti-lynch movement, and provided scholarships for black students in need of financial aid, among many other contributions to the community.

Harriet Tubman
"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."

Harriet Tubman not only navigated her way to freedom, but she made it her mission to help others also attain such freedom, despite compromising her own with each and every trip she made through the Underground Railroad.
